Apr 1, 2020

  • Grupo Iberebro is confident that the project can open its doors after the summer.
  • The construction work on the commercial park has been paralyzed in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree-Law 10/2020, approved by the Government last weekend, which requires all non-essential economic activity to be halted.

The shopping and leisure park La Torre Outlet Zaragoza, promoted by Grupo Iberebro, postpones its opening, planned for this spring, due to the current global crisis caused by the Coronavirus. The centre will open its doors after the summer, as long as the evolution of the situation allows it.

The construction work of the commercial area were paralyzed this Monday, according to the established in the Royal Decree-Law 10/2020 approved by the Government last March 29th. This regulation obliges to stop until April 9 all economic activity in sectors that do not provide essential services, including construction, "in order to reduce the mobility of the population in the context of the fight against COVID-19".

Luis Barcelona, CEO of Grupo Iberebro, explained that the implementation of this decree "inevitably delays the opening plans", but insisted that "right now the most important thing is to meet the guidelines set by the institutions to achieve curb this pandemic as soon as possible and ensure the safety of workers to protect them and their families from contagion”.

This stoppage in the construction work does not mean a setback in the marketing of the spaces of La Torre Outlet Zaragoza and neither in the open processes of negotiation and closing of contracts with new operators that, in the same way, also continue their course. Furthermore, all the brands that signed up to the project over the last few months have confirmed their commitment to the outlet despite the unexpected modification -for reasons of force majeure- of its opening date, as a result of the global crisis caused by the expansion of the COVID-19 virus.

Barcelona has added that "in the following weeks we will intensify our work in other areas the project that do not require the physical presence of our teams with the aim of offering the region a differential outlet format designed for a brand new 100% omnicanal consumer, which has already changed after this crisis".

In addition, he assured that Grupo Iberebro is confident that the opening of the commercial area can take place after the summer, "although, of course, everything will depend on the evolution of this pandemic and the guidelines provided by the competent authorities".
